The Hockey Hall of Fame has revealed its class of 2024, a distinguished group of seven individuals who have left an indelible mark on the sport. The induction ceremony is set to take place on November 11, 2024, celebrating the contributions of five players and two builders.
Notable Players Inducted
Among the players honored this year, Jeremy Roenick stands out for his remarkable 20-year NHL career. Roenick, who played for five different franchises, amassed an impressive 513 goals and 703 assists over 1,363 games. He ranks fourth in goals and fifth in points among American-born players in NHL history, a testament to his enduring skill and impact on the ice.
Joining Roenick is Pavel Datsyuk, a player renowned for his finesse and defensive prowess. Datsyuk's 14-season tenure with the Detroit Red Wings is highlighted by his three consecutive Selke Trophy wins from 2008 to 2010, awarded to the NHL's best defensive forward. Over his career, Datsyuk recorded 314 goals and 604 assists in 953 games and was instrumental in securing two Stanley Cup championships for the Red Wings.
Shea Weber, another illustrious player, made significant contributions during his 16-year career with the Nashville Predators and the Montreal Canadiens. Weber's 224 goals and 365 assists are complemented by his reputation as a stalwart defenseman, exemplified by his three-time Norris Trophy finalist status. His leadership was pivotal in leading the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020.
In women’s hockey, Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell-Pohl are celebrated for their exceptional achievements. Darwitz's leadership guided the University of Minnesota to a national championship in 2005, where she scored the game-winning goal against Harvard. Additionally, her international career boasts two Olympic silver medals, a bronze, three World Championship golds, and five silvers. Wendell-Pohl, another key figure in women’s hockey, played 147 international games, scoring 106 goals. Her accolades include a silver and bronze Olympic medal and guiding Team USA to a gold medal and earning MVP honors at the 2005 World Championships.
Builders Recognized
David Poile and Colin Campbell are the two builders recognized for their invaluable contributions to the sport. Poile, the winningest general manager in NHL history with 1,533 regular season victories, was the sole GM in Nashville Predators history until his retirement last year. Under his guidance, the Predators reached their first Stanley Cup Final in 2017, marking a significant milestone for the franchise.
Colin Campbell, known for his extensive involvement in the NHL, spent 11 seasons as a player before transitioning into coaching and executive roles. He earned a Stanley Cup as an assistant coach with the New York Rangers in 1994 and later served as the team's head coach for four seasons. For the past 25 years, Campbell has been an integral part of the NHL's administration, serving as an Executive Vice President.
